Garden offices offer all the best of the inside office but outdoors – providing you know exactly what to put in them.
While you could mirror exactly the contents of your office space indoors, an outdoors space should be a little more selective with what goes in. The following are five must-have items for any garden office.
1) Furniture
Stating the obvious, you should kit out your garden office with the bare minimum piece of furniture: a desk, chair, cabinet and drawers. If you don’t want to be making repeated trips indoors, then it’s worth putting keeping enough storage space free that you have all you need in the outdoor office.
2) Stationery
Yes, all the Ps: pens, pencil and paper – you can never have enough of all three. Bringing pen holders or dedicating drawers to just your stationary will ensure you’re never caught short.
3) Technology
You’ll certainly need to set up a PC; complete with internet connection, telephone and possibly even a television screen (perhaps for the news or stock market data) to make your pad a fully-kitted office.
All of these of course will require power supplies and lengths of cabling, originating somewhere from with the confines of the property. Therefore if you’re going to put all of this in, make that decision early, before your garden office’s construction, so that it’s all ready for you.
4) Refreshments
Now we’re getting a little more serious about truly making your office a space for work. Just like any company office, you’ll need regular cups of tea and coffee or water to keep you hydrated. Putting a kettle, water dispenser, or perhaps even a fridge is the best way to recreate that real office environment.
5) Decorations
You are still very near home and you should remind yourself of that. If you’re not allowed photos of friends and family on your desk in the main office, then why not put one on your desk at home? The same goes for getting some house plants and paintings to hang on the walls. It will really liven up the place and stamp your mark on it.
